Hmm - where did I say ALWAYS or even only.  I said "one of the major forces"
which implies there are OTHER major forces.  Geez.

I don't know where you got the idea that PC folks buy every little step in
speed.  I started with a 386-40, went to DX2-66, considering (just a matter of
time) P-90 or 100. Jump to DX2-66 = $600 (two years ago).  Jump to P-90
expected to be $800-1000.  Oh!! Before the 386-40 it was an 8088 10mhz!!!!
I figure that if you don't at least double your processor power, you are
probably wasting time and money.

And actually you have it backwards on the releasing completely new technology
front.  The good and bad thing about the PC is backwards compatibility.  The
good news is that most old PC-XT software will run on a Pentium.  The bad news
is that this devotion to DOS has crippled the OS causing Amiga folks (and
others) to correctly point out the faults of the Windows/DOS kludge. It is the
rare modern PC that can't accept an old XT internal card.  But the bottom line
is that the PC folks DID NOT abandon DOS and associated investment that PC
folks had in software.  Why do you think that a Pentium is only medium fast in
the fast chip league?  It is because they have maintained backward
compatibility to the old 8086 16 bit chip.  And the reason that Windows 3.0
was a smash hit was it allowed PC folks to run PC apps right along side of the
new Windows apps.  You can accuse the PC of many things, but abandoning the
installed software base is not one of them.

I expect that in the next two years that a "critical mass" of Windows apps
will be available which will make Windows NT or some version of it viable for
the average user.  By that time PCI will be standard and the era where you
pick and choose which platform you run Windows on will be in full swing.
People will finally abandon "true" DOS and run DOS in emmulation only.  Alpha
class machines will be ordinary.  For the Amiga to keep up speed-wise, the OS
needs to get ported to something other than the 680X series processor.  They
will need to incorporate the PCI bus as well I think.

I have made posts like this too often.  I'm stopping as of now.  Last one.

The owls use both platforms and will choose whichever gets the job done.
